User Profiles and Workspace Settings in the Cloud
- Bernhard Tritsch, CTO, Immidio
- Jeroen van de Kamp
If cloud computing becomes a widely established standard, more and more Windows applications will be provided from there. This means that many applications may be hosted simultaneously in multiple cloud-based and on-premise datacenters, allowing for dynamic and adaptive launch patterns. But what impact does this have on managing desktops and user-specific settings? This question deals with the challenges encountered when extracting application-specific profile information and using cloud shares for storing personalized settings. Join Benny when diving into a thrilling scenario that has a great potential to become common practice in the near future.

Virtual Desktops Provided by Microsoft – Competitive Edge or Just Good Enough?
- Bernhard Tritsch, CTO, Immidio
Microsoft’s virtualization strategy gains momentum. With Windows Server 2008 R2 the traditional concept of Remote Desktop Services (formerly Terminal Services) is expanded by new features, allowing to provide a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). VDI enables Windows 7 desktops to be hosted within centralized Hyper-V servers. But are these Microsoft solutions already good enough to compete with established products in this market segment, such as Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop? In his session, Benny Tritsch, Remote Desktop Services MVP and Citrix CTP, introduces you to the solutions provided by Microsoft, highlighting pros and cons in an unbiased manner. With real-world examples and demonstrations he gives you expert guidance on when to use what.

Fast or Furious – Dynamic Access to Self-Installed and Self-Assigned Applications
- Bernhard Tritsch, CTO, Immidio
In most companies, Windows applications and desktops are pre-determined by IT. As a result access to applications is baked into their delivery methods, typically based upon user roles or physical locations. But when looking at the Windows applications landscape, many corporate users need a rich variety and on-demand choice reflecting their dynamic business demands. Application self-assignment and self-installation may help IT respond to the gap between such requirements and traditional enterprise computing. In his session Benny Tritsch presents pros and cons of user-controlled on-demand application provisioning or installation, including an overview of existing solutions.
